hair
removal <
What is it?
This is the fastest and strongest hair reduction laser. It is also very safe
and has the best track record of achieving permanent hair reduction in all
skin colors. The Alexandrite laser is the best for hair reduction on people
with all skin types. In fact, it's one of the only lasers effective on lighter
hair - particularly on those who've experienced unsuccessful hair reduction
in the past. It also has the most effective surface cooling of all lasers,
using unique cryogenic cooling.
Which areas can be treated?
All areas of the face and body can be treated.
Is it safe?
In good hands, it is an extremely safe laser. The clinicians at DC Dermatologicum
are highly trained to use the Candela Laser.
How does it work?
The intense light of the laser heats the melanin in the base of the hair follicle,
permanently destroying the hair bulb. The feeder blood vessels to the hair
bulb are also destroyed.
Do I need to prepare the area before
I'm treated?
The area is shaved before treatment so there is no need to grow hair beforehand.
Don’t pluck, wax or use electrolysis or a depilatory cream for at least 4-6
weeks before treatment. Shaving is ok.
What happens during the procedure?
The large head of the machine is passed over the area to be treated delivering
heat. As the hair is shaven, the heat only targets the hair bulb and does
not burn the skin. It can be a little painful, but numbing cream can be used
- in fact, the Candela Laser delivers effective cooling to the surface of
the skin, significantly minimizing the pain, especially when used on sensitive
areas.
How long does the procedure take?
5-60 minutes per session, depending on the size of the area targeted. Hair
reduction with the Candela Laser requires a third to half the time to complete
each treatment compared to most other laser machines. Due to its power and
effectiveness, fewer treatments will also be required. You will need 4-8
sessions over about 12 months due to hair growth stages and the area targeted.
How long will my recovery be and
what can I expect?
Recovery is immediate, though the area may be a little red for a few hours.
Is there any aftercare?
For the first 24 hours, avoid the sun, exfoliation and tight clothing as these
can irritate the area. Your hair should not be waxed or tweezed during the
treatment period as this encourages hair growth and strength. But you may
shave, bleach or trim the area.
How long will it last?
The technology is very advanced, therefore hair reduction is permanent, so
long as the procedure is performed correctly and all growth stages are treated.
skin tag
removal <
What is a Skin Tag?
A skin tag is a small, common, soft but harmless skin growth. It is defined
as a benign growth of the skin that is connected to the body by a short stalk.
Skin tags appear like lesions that appear to hang off the skin. There are
various methods to remove skin tags. No health insurance plan covers skin
tag removal since it is most often removed for cosmetic reasons. Find out
more on identifying skin tags and understanding their removal process.
Causes of skin tags:
- Irritation or chaffing caused from skin rubbing together.
- During pregnancy, when there is a high level of growth factors.
- Skin tags can occur if insulin resistance, syndrome X persists.
- Skin tags can also be caused by wart virus, known as human papilloma virus.
- Obese persons tend to get skin tags.
- Skin tags also seem to occur more in persons affected by type 2 diabetes
mellitus.
Skin tag removal
Most doctors recommend removal of skin tags only when it is absolutely necessary.
Removal becomes essential when skin tags are irritated and sore by rubbing
of clothing or jewelry, they become a source of discomfort.
A dermatologist can easily remove a skin tag by burning it off with electric
needle or by cutting it off with a scalpel or scissors. Usually the healing
process takes a week or two.
Methods to remove skin tags
- Cryotherapy (Freezing the tag with liquid nitrogen)
- Laser Surgery
- Surgical excision (With scalpel or scissors)
- Electrosurgery (Diathermy)
- Ligation (A suture is tied around the neck of the skin tag)
Skin tags may be removed by any of the above methods after injecting
a small amount of a local anesthetic. Antiseptic cleansing thereafter
would prevent infection. If bleeding occurs, it is usually stopped
with a chemical called aluminum chloride or electric - cauterizing
treatment. If it is not obvious that the skin growth is a skin
tag, the doctor may want to send a biopsy which means the doctor
will remove a small piece of skin to be examined in a laboratory
to find out if it is malignant or not.
dermal fillers
< What are they?
Hyaluronics are medium-term dermal fillers made from a synthetic
polymer of hyaluronic acid. Our skin makes its own hyaluronic
acid (it helps retain water under our skin for skin hydration),
which is why it is a temporary filler - the body naturally absorbs
it after a few months. In what areas can they be used?
Smile creases, jowling creases (marionette lines that produce downturned
lips), frown and forehead creases, creases around the eyes and
hollows underneath the eyes, crease lines above and below the
lips, the lips to plump and reshape, the nose, chin, jawline
and cheeks to add volume and reshape, and the eyebrows to create
lift. During your consultation, the Doctor will discuss your
needs to determine the amount of dermal filler required. You
can begin with a small amount of the filler and build on this,
depending on the result you
would like and your budget. Are they safe?
Hyaluronics have been used around the world since the mid nineties.
They are completely safe and are not known to cause allergic
reactions. How do they work?
Firstly, the soft gel fillers plump and flatten age lines, creases
and depressions (such as smile lines and the lines above and
below the lips). Once in place, the skin isn't able to fold in
these areas as easily and therefore you receive significant protection
from advanced ageing
and further collagen loss. Secondly, you are able to fill and enhance
facial features, such as the lips, cheeks, chin and nose, where
volume is lacking. Not only do dermal fillers perform a cosmetic
enhancement, they prevent the folds and creases from becoming deeper
- they act as a cushioning pad plus they stimulate new collagen
growth in the base of creases. What happens during the procedure?
The filler is injected into the desired area(s). You receive a
local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. How long does the procedure take?
10-20 minutes. You may require up to 3 sessions, depending on the
size and type of area targeted. How long will my recovery be and what can I expect?
In most cases you will be able to return to your normal activities
straightaway. There is usually no discomfort once the local anaesthetic
has worn off. Swelling and some redness is apparent for a few
hours. You may also see a few tiny needle-prick marks and some
local bruising. These can be easily masked with make-up. In the
case of lip enhancement, younger people will recover overnight,
but older people (with more shrunken and scarred lips) can expect
reasonable swelling for 2-3 days. Is there any aftercare?
It is important to revisit the clinic for a follow-up consultation
10 days after your treatment. The Doctor will mould and massage
the gel padding to ensure there are no lumps, fix any slight
movements (which is common) and check if the filler is providing
the maximum repair/support. How long will hyaluronics last?
As they are a natural body product, hyaluronics are slowly absorbed
into the body and will require topping up after 6-12 months,
depending on the type and the amount used as well as the site
injected. The more product used, and the thicker and firmer the
version of the product, the longer it will remain in place. Also,
the less an area moves, the longer it will last. ldm ultrasound
treatment < What is this treatment and what does LDM stand for?
LDM is the abbreviation for Local Dynamic Micro massage of dermal
tissue structures acting directly on the cells and fibres. In
this pending patent technology two ultra sound waves of different
frequencies are blended together to form a new LDM-Wave. Ultrasonic sound waves act by stimulating body cells by raising
temperature in the skin therefore increasing your metabolic rate.
This is turn stimulates collagen production which is responsible
for the firm look of the Skin. The increase in circulation kick
starts a chain of beneficial events for skin including debris removal
(cleanses the cell wall), healing, and regeneration.
Also the sound waves act by pushing any contact cream deep within
the layers of the skin, therefore during your treatment a cream/gel
will be selected personal for you In what areas can they be used?
This machine can be used in most areas where the skin needs to
be treated. However the most popular areas are: Face, neck, décolleté,
stomach, hips, thighs and back. What happens during the procedure and what effect does it have?
LDM produces thermal, biochemical and mechanical effects in one
operation. The collagen fibres become tightened and spatially
organized, the endogenous collagen production will be stimulated
and its degradation will be reduced. Each treatment gives partical
reversal of skin ageing. This makes the LDM technology an important
component of modern anti- ageing concepts for skin rejuvenation
in aesthetic medicine.
This method enables through its direct effect onto different MMP's
(matrix metalloproteinases) the delicate intervention into the
connective tissue metabolism on its different levels - from the
stimulation of fibroblasts right up to inhibition of collagenases
and gelatinases activity. Through some special mixing of different
frequencies in one LDM wave one can specifically change the dynamic
ratios in the connective tissue metabolism. How long does the procedure take?
The procedure is carried out usually with a facial cleansing treatment
and this will in total last an hour. The portion of Ultra sound
in this hour can vary from 20-30 mins. How long will my recovery be and what can I expect?
During this treatment you will feel no discomfort. The only thing
you will feel is a slight warming sensation. Therefore the recovery
is immediate. How long will the effects last and how many treatments will I
need?
Aesthetic applications of LDM waves keep the skin young! Depending
on the age and the condition of the skin an introductory course
of 8-12 sessions is recommended, after that recurrently and according
to the skin problem on maintenance treatment on average 1-2 months. swedish
massage <
What is a Swedish Massage?
The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques
specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to
them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same
direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.
Swedish massage was developed in the 1700's by a Swedish doctor
named Per Henrik Ling. Purpose of Swedish Massage
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow
in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by
flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic
wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load.
It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and
pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system
and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces
stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular
program for stress management. It also has many specific medical
uses. Swedish Massage Techniques
Swedish massage techniques include: long strokes, kneading, friction,
tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions.
The usually sequence of techniques are: - Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips
- Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or
fingers
- Friction: Circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs
and/or fingers
- Vibration: Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body
- Percussion: Brisk hacking or tapping
- Passive and active movements: Bending and stretching Benefits of Swedish Massage
Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. It affects
the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, manicure < What is a manicure?
Manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for hands and fingernails.
Manicure treatment can treat only hands or fingernails or both.
You can do it yourself at home or a manicurist will do it for
